Hey guys!
I'm creating a hotspot system for the local refugee shelter. Now, if it was up to me I'd just let them have a WPA2 key and use it as they please. But local politics don't want that, so I can't.
The hardware setup looks like this currently:
- 1x MikroTik Antenna on RouterOS 6 connecting to the Internet
- 2x TP-Link TL-WR1043ND flashed with the latest stable OpenWRT release and wifidog installed
- 1x Netgear GS108GE switch connecting all three
The antenna itself has a built in Radius server, as most of you guys probably know. I could use that for wifidog. It also has a Hotspot function, but I think if I wanted to use that, I'd have to have the Antenna assign IP's over DHCP, right? Seems kind of cluttered. Plus wifidog seems to expect me to run the Auth server with an SQL db and some additional specific packages. So I'm now considering to get a Raspberry Pi with a sturdy case and hook that up to the Netgear switch, then running the Auth server and FreeRadius on Raspbian or something, making the setup look like this:
Netgear Switch =>
- 10.0.0.1 Mikrotik Antenna (Internet Uplink only)
- 10.0.0.2 Raspberry Pi (Radius & Auth server for Wifidog)
- 10.0.0.3 Hotspot 1 (OpenWRT + Wifidog) (on 'WAN' Port)
- 10.0.0.4 Hotspot 2 (OpenWRT + Wifidog) (on 'WAN' Port)
Now, do you guys see any problems with this particular setup, in theory? I have tried using the MikroTik Antenna as the Radius and Auth server and ran into a trillion different problems.
I'm sure this may be a stupid inquiry to a lot of you, but please bear with me. Just getting started in this line of work. I'm thankful for any ideas you'll pitch as well as potential trouble you recognize.
Thank you,
Gruselbauer
